After this, Conan was rescued by Subotai (once) and by Valeria (twice), finally his father's sword was broken. His father was wrong.

Moments such as this remind me of how much we have lost (and arguably more valuable), in progress and unquenchable thirst for more and quicker easier things. Contemplate on it, the beauty, honor, skill and other qualities when man and women fought with swords, bows and other wielded weapons. That were like an extension of there own body.
What is it for someone you just pick up a gun and pull a trigger ? I think this applies to many things we have lost over time sadly.

Conan's father is actually telling the story of Atlantis' fall: Cimmerians in the world of Conan are descendants of Atlanteans, the "Giants", who were believed to have been punished by gods for their arrogance, and with their fall much knowledge was initially thought lost – like the "Riddle of Steel"; advanced metallurgy – but some survived thanks to people who descended from them. By the time of Conan it has already been ages since the fall of Atlantis, and history has become mythologized.

I hope Zack Snyder takes over for the next Conan movie. I loved his work on 300.

I think I have a good idea of what the answer to the riddle of steel is.

It's deprived alot from the old saying great warriors aren't born they're built, also what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Before a sword can be a weapon it is just elements that come from the earth like there god Crom. They have to be taken separated and forged into a sword which is not an easy task.

After Conan's clan was killed he was taken away to be a slave for the remainder of his childhood pushing a mill, and then in adulthood made to fight as a gladiator, then trained by swordmasters to fight with the blade, and eventually to read and write. Much like the sword or weapon which must be reforged over and over to become stronger, Conan became stronger over time from his labors. As powerful as the sword is it is nothing without the warrior that wields it.

The riddle of steel: Faith in steel is fragile – Faith in man is deadly – Faith in women is foolish – Faith in Crom is eternal.

I once gave my son the exact same speech when he was young. However, instead of holding a sword I held an AK-47.

Should have read- "This you can trust- assuming it doesn't break halfway through a swordfight in which you're up shit creek."
