Also "de" means "of". So Voldemort translates to "stealing of death"

Basically, I think Rowling came up with "Voldemort" which just sounds cool and has "death" in it, then "Tom Riddle" as foreshadowing (and sounds cool) – and the"Marvolo" just makes the whole "I am Lord Voldemort" thing work.

Jakob Ghyselinck voler (infinitive of vol) means both to fly and to steal, so you're both right realy

Anyone else find Voldemort and everything about him similar to Edgar Allen Poe's 'The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar' similar. With the whole dead-like-state with no pulse, no breath, and cold and pale skin, the sudden outburst after an extremely long trance-like state wanting the narrator to put him to sleep or to wake him up, and then the sudden death at the end where he fall apart.

I always associated the "vol" part of the name with flying –> flight of death. it can actually mean both though… curious…

Your videos have such great content, but when it comes to your own theories, and conjecture it almost seems like you don't know the character.

Voldemort would NEVER have based even his name off of someone else's. He believed he was the most powerful, and unique wizard the world had, and would ever see. He never modeled anything about himself after any other wizard.

The link to the legend of King Arthur, and the characters like Merlin and the other wizard have nothing to do with the idea that they ALL existed in the Harry Potter Universe. Harry is a type of King Arthur in the story, not a reincarnation. He escaped death, he went away from the wizarding world for a time, and then returned to bring freedom and peace to the wizarding world mirroring the Arthurian legend. Merlin was made real in the story to further support this analogy.

I have always read that Voldemort is a play on the French for "Flight of Death", and that has never quite made sense to me because death didn't flee from him. I love that you finally cleared it up by explaining the connection to "Voleur!" This makes perfect sense, so thank you!

Because he hated his Father with a passion and did not want to be associated with him.

Lord Voldemort is Tom Marvolo Riddle, only mixed the letters are mixed up. (he says so in harry potter and the chamber of secrets)
Tom Riddle (aka Voldemort) wanted to become a feared wizard and didn't want to keep his father's name, despite his hatred towards non magic folk

Suggestion– What would it be like to speak to a portrait of yourself in the Harry Potter universe? In which the portrait could hold a conversation with you?

Very intriguing. I'm surprised you didn't even reference the anagram revealed in The Chamber of Secrets, though I suspect J.K. Rowling chose the name Lord Voldemort first and chose the name Tom Marvolo Riddle to fit the anagram.

Before watching predictions: While in the orphanage, he played around with his name realized it has "Lord" in it and Voldemort probably came from when he really wanted to do evil

Well, "I am Lord Voldemort" is an anagram of his real name "Tom Marvolo Riddle", but he could also have gone with "Mr. Tom, a Dildo Lover" instead.
