Hey James. I noticed the *Nikon D750* in between your gear and I have the following question. Why is Nikon almost never mentioned by Youtubers when it comes down to cinematography? Most channels I watch, when discussing cameras, be it for video or photos, will focus on Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Pentax… But almost always completely ignore Nikon. Why is that? Any special reason their cameras are bad, or expensive, or … ? Thanks.

Great video! 🙂 Do you ever visit the Peak District? Some great places for shots there!

First thing I'm inspired to take pictures of when I wake up in the morning is the pool of vomit next to the bed. MINI INSTAX

    Fuck Polaroid, still too expensive.

The problem is seeking 'Likes' on Social Media as inspiration. It's self perpetuating narcissism, it's a projection of what you think others will deem acceptable and inevitably bend yourself to see fit, not what you actually believe.

You perfectly summed up the mess that inspiration/motivation is. One can’t really put a finger on it… 2 thoughts on it: 1. Ideas are nothing. Everyone has ideas. Execution is all that matters (Casey Neistat). 2. (Somewhat related:) Motivation isn’t the cause but the the result of productivity (Mark Manson). And you said that basically. You go out and do things. The best way to get motivated to take pictures is to go out and take pictures. (For me anyway). Cheers James!

So glad we've subscribed to the same youtubers except for Casey.. haha but I definitely watch his vlogs. your kind of a peer to me. you're easy to watch. a bit relax than the others I've subscribed. You're definitely one of my 5 faves next to Peter Mckinnon, Thomas Heaton, Joe Allam and Matti from Travel Feels.

The humor is the secret sauce James. Keep it up. I like your approach to ideation. It reminds me of a post I read this weekend from Alexandra Samuel at Zapier about organizing your ideas and putting some automation in there. I'd like to try it because I use Evernote for bits and bobs, but never thought about setting up a notebook devoted purely to ideas. Here's the link in case you are curious. https://zapier.com/blog/create-idea-file/

Thought provoking. I'm not really creative naturally – I'm more an observer, repeater or solid documenter. Not much of an artist. The things I do though – I find that deciding what I want to address, then immersing myself in things related to it and just letting them incubate in my head for a while – step away, and then try to distil something as simply as possible often causes something to formulate in my head – and often while taking in a good hot shower… it's worked for years… I hike the more doable mountain trails here in UT rather than run. My gut precludes any of that … what did you call it ? RUN ??? 😉

Summed it up pretty nicely mate, creativity doesn’t just happen, it’s all the influences we have plus an added twist of our own 👌🏼

I don't get the whole Casey thing. It's never floated my boat. I watched the latest Peter McKinnon vid with Casey, but I didn't see the appeal. Maybe I'm just an old fart.
I usually get my inspiration while at work, and then forget it all by the time i get home. I love it when that happens.
The notebook. Good idea. Does it go up to a hundred and page 24? If so…………i'll take 2!

My wife says to me, looking over my shoulder at my latest vlog coming together, and says, "I can't figure you out, you haven't developed a "style."" I really like outdoor photography and nature. I'm rarely inspired by taking pics of people as the focus in a pic. Vlogging in particular has me still a bit creatively confused, so I guess it reflects in what I am producing here on YouTube… ie. my latest vid is an un-boxing of some new kit (a table top camera dolly). As long as I'm having fun right?! Thanks for the great vid and inspiration James. Keep up the excellent work! Keeping me informed, inspired, and laughing. A great combo. 🙂

I was with you until you mentioned Peter McKinnon, H3 and Neistat … not for me, they irritate the sheeet out of me. I can see where you might have been inspired by those guys, but at least you're funny ….
