Inspiring The Future – Redraw The Balance

This powerful film from MullenLowe London provocatively captures how, early on in their education, children already define career opportunities as male and female. When asked to draw a firefighter, surgeon and a fighter pilot, 61 pictures were drawn of men and only 5 were female. It’s time to #redrawthebalance. can't wait to burn up in a building when a female fire fighter tries to haul my fat ass out. I'd rather die than be half burned to death.

I'm all against indoctrinating children with feminist propaganda, but how is this that? Granted they could have shown women who work 'dirty' low paying blue collar jobs, and perhaps they should have shown men who work traditionally feminine jobs, but what is wrong with simply showing children that girls can do traditionally masculine jobs? They aren't telling girls that they are obligated to choose these specific career paths or telling boys that they are obligated not to – are they? Opening children's minds beyond cultural biases is preferable to instituting blunt and discriminatory affirmative action later on to 'correct' for young people's own career preferences, is it not?

Lol. What if the adverse effect this video has is that it only drives young kids to be come feminists and enroll in gender studies to help spread the gospel that sexist white men keep women out of tech?

Oh whop-de-do! Girls are interested in different things to Boys. Just like Women are interested in different things to Men. But wait for it – the video itself then goes to prove that if you are still interested in any career, you can still do it because it's already illegal to deny anyone education and job opportunities based on gender.

So what the heck is the point or purpose of this video? I mean ok, I get that the point of the classroom exercise is to try and politicize young children as early as possible, but wouldn't one at least experience some form of shame making a video about it?

To equal it out you should of asked them to draw: Nurses.
Teachers, Psychiatrics and Librarians, I wonder what gender they would be.

This isn't a gender stereotype the majority of people in these fields are Male. 3% of the people. According the the UK Gov operational fire rescue statistics 5 percent of firefighters in England were women[1]. In the UK in 2015 only 4,000, of 130,000 pilots were Female[2]. In 2014 women only made up 10.5% of consultant surgeons in England[3]. What these Children are representing is the reality of the situation. Why didn't you ask the Children to draw a Nurse, school teacher, social worker, psychologist, HR Manager? These are all Female dominated fields and Nurses are even 91.16% Female[4]. Are the people who hire Nurses sexist or are just not many Men becoming nurses? The reason you didn't ask them to draw people in female dominated fields because it wouldn't fit your agenda. You are teaching these kids the wrong information. You can make young girls more interested in these careers in different ways.

People are mad at this? All they did was show kids that women can do these jobs too. I know feminists can get nuts these days but this is not an example of that. This is egalitarian feminism not some sort of man-hating SJW shit. Calm your titties.

I'm gonna get a ton of shit for this, but whatever. I don't really get why this video is so bad. It's simply teaching kids that you don't have to be a specific sex to get jobs like these. Of course, the kids probably didn't mean to make it seem like they thought that, but small things like drawing only male firefighters could plant a seed in your subconscious. This is a little personal, but an example is that I thought women were better than men because they didn't have to work or worked easier jobs. This was because my father worked all the time while mom was at home. I didn't consciously think my father was lesser to me, but as I've grown up, I've realized that I always treated boys worse because of it(I'm also just a very controlling person). It's easier to learn as a child, so I think planting positive ideas is a good thing. Of course, maybe there's something else to this video that I'm not getting, like if the children were hurt in the making of this video. Then I would get the hate. But, if it's just spreading feminism (which is equality between males and females, not being a feminazi, which is sexist), then I don't get it.

    61 were drawn as men.
    5 were drawn as women.

In other words the kids were pretty damn close to getting the actual demographics of those professions correct.

    Leftism is a cult.

The kids are right. The numbers I found were 6.66% of pilots were women. only 1 is a fighter pilot. (https://www.wai.org/resources/waistats). This is not choice. There are clear physiological reasons why men outperform women as specifically fighter pilots (the choice you wanted drawn).
4.6% of firefighters are women (http://www.nfpa.org/news-and-research/fire-statistics-and-reports/fire-statistics/the-fire-service/administration/firefighting-occupations-by-women-and-race). And this does not draw the distinction between women who work for the fire service in various roles but not the even smaller percentage of those who actually fight fires (what kids draws a picture of an emergency planner or inventory specialist?).
10.5% of surgeons are women (https://www.rcseng.ac.uk/careers-in-surgery/women-in-surgery/mission-and-goals/women-surgeon-statistics/). Considering that women are 50+% of medical school graduates, this disparity is not "underrepresentation", it is a reflection of choice.
Stop trying to social engineer the world and try accepting the fact that women simply make different choices than men do. I don't see you rushing to increase the number of male nurses or teachers, or increase the number of female carpenters and trash collectors. Take your social justice BS and shove it!

Men are physically stronger than women, therefore women firefighters aren't as qualified as men.

Men have faster reflexes and have better understading of distance than women, therefore men pilots are better than women.

Men have more synapses on their brain than women, therefore men can be smarter than women.

Did you ask whether they do a good job (the drawn, occupational strawmen)? That's what should have mattered. Then, ask the children if they would do an equal or BETTER JOB at the jobs drawn if they were to do the jobs. What if their fathers' were their inspiration? Or their mothers even?! What if they were simply projecting themselves onto the drawings? Were there five girls that drew female occupation holders? Were there boys that drew females? Finally, ask if the children knew what was required of those jobs and whether they WANTED those jobs; or, which of those jobs seemed attractive to the students. THEN, collate the data into male-female parameters based on jobs presented. Maybe THEN you'll find the ROOT OF your "problem." If not, blame the media. You know, the same media that has pushed for YEARS that girls can do anything boys can do. Or, blame society,. Yes, the same society that has been influenced FOR YEARS that women are as good as and as strong as men.

Do NOT, however, allude to any biological imperatives driven by environmental factors; technological improvements creating a more welcoming and easier progression for women into the work force, or supplementing their ability to do hard, physical labor; direct upbringing or influence; or societal underpinnings such as men's REQUIREMENT to be successful versus women's ability to CHOOSE whether they work at all, which influences the types of occupations sought. Skim over the fact that women now make up 60% of college students and have the ability to choose their degrees and occupations…

How about simply telling the children that anyone can be anything if they put their mind to it?

But no. Instead, women have no agency, cannot affect change upon their surroundings and it's society's fault for not portraying women as surgeons and fire fighters and astronauts. There's never any poor decision making, bad planning, avoidance of hard work, or accountability on the part of the women who have NOT CHOSEN TO GET AN M.D., bulk up to meet or exceed the firefighter test, or study math and astrophysics, and thus, leveling the perception of the holders of those occupation.

PLEASE stop this. You are making children believe that the entire world is against females, and that little boys are evil simply for being born. I know a bit about that feeling…eleven degrees of it.

More nonsense, narratives and propaganda to feed the kids. Keep shaming them, that will help to force it down their little throats.

Notice how the teacher didn't ask them to draw teachers, nurses and other positions that are dominated by women. Because, then, they would have to show the men who are in these positions as well.

But, it's not about equality with these feminists…it's about power and control.

How many girls are there actually in that class? We haven't seen all drawing, so is it possible that these kids imagine themselves as fire fighters or fighter pilots or someone from their own gender?
