The Return Of Rocky Balboa

Rocky is back! I was going to begin this sentence by saying, "As a former Philadelphiaian," but anyone who was born in Philly and lived there never really gives up their Philadelphia status. I understand that to some of you, this latest and final installation is not a big deal; You might even be rolling your eyes about it. But if you are from Philadelphia, Rocky is a legend. A fictional legend but a legend nonetheless. Rocky has inspired young Philadelphiaians to be great fighters, not only with their hands but more importantly in life.

When Rocky V dropped, people all over the country and even internationally were disappointed in the direction Rocky took. I too was disappointed and felt that V was kind of anti-climactic and left me unsatisfied with the Rocky franchise. I was determined to believe that a Rocky VI would eventually come and redeem the franchise. Well, it's finally here and already one of the teaser trailers gets to the exact point I made above, that Rocky is not just about inspiring fighters, it's about realizing the potential in all of us. I have not met one person who does not get impressed by the original Rocky score. It's kind of funny how people make fun of how "dumb" Rocky is in the movies because I think they're missing the point. Rocky is so "dumb," right, that he promises to give up fighting to achieve the impossible. He's too stupid to realize that he can not accomplish what all the smart experts tell him he can not. He's too ignorant to give up on reaching greatness against overwhelming odds. Get my point? Genius should not be limited to an IQ score.

"What is it you said to the kid? The world is not all sunshine and rainbows. Keep you there, permanently … if you let it. You or nobody is not ever gonna hit as hard as life. Keep moving forward … how much you can take, and keep moving forward. If you know what you're worth, go out and get what you're worth. – Rocky Balboa from Rocky VI (Rocky Balboa)

Looking forward to seeing the inspiration in December!
