Making your first feature documentary is hard, and it’s a process that you rarely get a close look at. This is why I decided to start documenting my own struggle as a filmmaker.

About three years ago I started working on my debut feature doc called The Pearl Of Africa. Making it seems to be impossible, which I why I decided to create a Vlog about my struggle to make the film.

Fantastic video both for the information and thoughts but also I believe a very good one to study to develop editing skills.
    Thanks again, Pete

Another excellent video! I love getting back to this channel, it's always so refreshing compared to what's on Youtube these days..
Quick question : I guess this was shot on the BMPCC? Which lenses do you use?

Hi there Creative North and fellow youtube users… First, I have a background in professional photography but I decided to start playing around with video. Second, you asked for 'thoughts', so I will share my personal ones with the objective and intension to create a valuable discussion. By no means, I 'm trying to troll you. So:

    What I liked:
    1. Technical capabilities (color, sound, angles, cuts, etc)
    2. Good example to capitalize, if you (as a aspiring cinematographer) take the time to decompose the video.

Thing I would love to see IMHO:
    1. More attention to the story. Develop more emotions and the conflicts. Make it a little bit more personal.
    2. As I said, is a good example video, but is nothing out of the ordinary from a Youtube point of view. I personally feel saturated with travel/cool/inspirational/liveyourlifetothemax type of videos.
    3. Again, personally, I believe the RAW version of your self is much more strong and interesting than the off camera poetic blurb. (don't hit me! 😉

What made me subscribe to your channel was what you had to said. Your knowledge, your opinions and recommendations! (Be your self! puaj! just kidding)

I'm looking forward to your next vid!
    Vi ses

Your videos act like placebo for daily pains.
Opposite to some ridiculous repetitive daily vlogers which have no creativity and innovation, Your voice and the logic behind your filmmaking style absorb any viewer.
    Congrats to those brilliant ideas.

Interesting commentary Jonny! I've recently moved from New Zealand's southern island to Shanghai, trading rocky mountains for concrete ones. While Shanghai's a pretty amazing experience, I do feel like my identity has been shifted since I left the rocks behind me. I wonder how/if this has affected my film making!
