Revealing the Nature of Dark Matter

Dr. Dan Hooper, a Theoretical Astrophysicist at Fermilab, explores the current status of the dark matter search and some new thoughts on the nature of this mystery.

A signal of gamma rays has been observed from the center of the Milky Way, and it may be the breakthrough that we have long been waiting for. If these gamma-rays are in fact being produced by the interactions of dark matter particles, they promise to reveal much about this elusive substance, and may be a major step toward identifying of the underlying nature of our universe’s dark matter.

I have great respect for theoreticians; not only for their vast intelligence but for their courage when making statements like "Dark matter is my area of expertise" followed by "we don't know what dark matter is."

I like watching scientists trying to explain what they do to a general audience – some do so extremely fluently and others struggle tremendously but either way it's a break from all those samey TV drama shows they encourage you to buy twice. SLAC have got the right idea with the catchy thumbnails and I know you could probably get in touch and they would sell you a hard copy of your preferred presentation but how about releasing an entire series? I know your teenagers would be pleased you stopped off after work on Monday for the latest box set even if you could have downloaded it on cable.,..

What is" Dark Matter " and what explains Dark Energy.

Dark Energy emanates from the movement of this matter within it's surrounding
fabric of space, you should if my hypothesis is correct find the " Dark
Energy" around the Dark Matter's immediate area..

Why is it that most dark matter regions no are bigger than our observable galaxies and at
any given spot with some being as small as individual planets.

It is the mass of matter on the reverse side of space time.

Kind of like spreading out a sheet of rubber and having something
pushing up from underneath, this is what gravitational lensing is
showing me. this explains the "bumps and dips" between galaxies and why
they are moving at the rate they are and not interacting with matter
    other than gravitationally.

When James Webb is operational maybe my theory will be proven and one
way of looking for the tell tale signatures is to look for gravitational
waves emanating from the dark matter regions, among other things this
will show there is matter in motion and why these spots cause a
gravitational reaction with objects around them.

Here is an idea… I wonder if light (EM radiation) from stars can somehow increase the production rate of virtual electron-positron pairs in free space due to ever-present quantum vacuum fluctuations. And these virtual electron-positron pairs are interacting gravitationally (no outside EM interaction) before popping out of existence again. Maybe dark-matter isn't permanent, but more a property of how space behaves when the quantum fields are excited by passing bosons. Virtual particle production and destruction rates are able to reach different equilibrium pair concentrations (more-or-less gravity), depending on the concentration of bosons flying through a volume of space. That's why you would find "dark-matter" clustered around normal matter. It's because that's where the highest radiation concentrations are. I think we will need to understand gravity a lot better (quantum theory) before we will be able to determine what dark matter is.

Wonder if an advanced species in the universe, is watching this like we would watch a comedy show. Thinking WOW this is so dumb it's funny.
Basically we have no idea what Dark Matter, or Dark Energy is, or how to detect it.
We are still babe's in the woods trying to make sense of the forest.
I hope they keep trying and learning so maybe one day we will know.
Also he's a very informative and engaging speaker, and seems to really care about discovery. Which is rare when most only care about ten-year.

My hypothesis that Dark Matter is not a weakly interactive massive particle (WIMP), but maybe is a deformation of space-time by which the curvature of space-time itself is the cause of the gravitational effect. Gravity is the consequence of the curvature of space-time when mass is present.  It may be possible that the structure of space-time itself could be warped without the presence of mass.  So, how did this warping occur?  We believe this warping of space-time occurred during the extreme conditions present during inflation. Space-time has been shown to react like a fabric by warping, twisting, and propagating independent of mass. These properties have been proven with observations of gravitational lensing, frame dragging, and now gravitational waves. Fabrics can be stretched, pressured, and/or heated to the point of deformation. Such extreme conditions were all present during inflation, so it is plausible that space-time’s elastic nature could have hit its yield point and permanently deformed. Therefore, if gravity is the consequence of the warping of space-time, and fabrics can be permanently deformed, then a deformation could create a gravitational effect independent of mass. Thus, the unidentified dark "matter" that seems to be so elusive to modern science may not be matter at all but merely warped deformities causing gravitational effects.  We have a prediction using gravitational lens mapping to prove Dark Matter isn’t a weakly interacting massive particle, but instead is a floating fixed pocket of warped geodesics in space-time geometry causing gravity wells.

Dark matter is just a placeholder name for something we don't know.
However it does qualify as being matter in the same way as atoms do, it has mass.

At the end of the nineteenth century there was the hypothesis of the luminiferous ether. Maxwell, through mathematics, proved that light did not need a medium to propagate. Who knows? The dark matter is but another Ether, which will be discarded later in time. We will search for it until a new Michelson emerges in the science world. For example, the galaxy NGC 4736 no need any dark matter to show it. That is, dark matter exists here and there, but not everywhere?

It's a lot more to do with Electromagnetic Fields than you and I think. Check 'Primer fields' and you will have some more clues and answers. (and a lot more questions!)

There is no dark matter ! It's just a mathematical fudge factor to carry on a tied and waning paradigm. How long are these very smart people going to carry on spouting this crap before they realise it's all in there heads . Mathematics is not a science, it's just a tool very smart people use to explain what they think is going on . You can wield numbers to do anything you like , how many solutions are there to the answer 100 , infinite. Do some Real science in a lab and get back to me . Show me a black hole , show me a neutron star show me your mythical dark matter , ow you can't because it only exists in your head . There are better ideas out there if you care to look. The EU for a start . Stop making things up to solve your pointless equations and use your obvious intelligence to better mankind in finding the truth, not just to make your employers happy.

It is a great shame that the scientific community has committed so much time and money in pursuit of the elusive Dark Matter particle and looked in the wrong place for it.  To extricate themselves from this unfortunate dead end will be nigh impossible but I will do my bit to kick start the process.

The discovery of Dark Energy should have rung galactic sized alarm bells
because that told us that we are in an accelerating expanding universe.  This means that we are not in a Newtonian gravity-momentum universe but in a gravity-propulsion universe in which Dark Energy provides the energy to enable the propulsion.

In a gravity-propulsion universe Dark Matter is redundant.  Really it is quite simple so long as you don’t confuse and bamboozle everybody by re-introducing the disastrous Cosmological Constant.  In order to understand why Dark Matter does not exist, you have first to remove all crutches and bandages propping up broken Newtonian physics.  What
you are then left with is that  matter itself is being propelled.  So how does it do it?  Something must be providing the energy to enable the force of propulsion in matter.  And this is where Dark Energy really starts
    to matter.

I propose that just as matter converts Gravitational Energy to gravitational force so likewise matter converts Dark Energy to propulsive force.  This propulsive force is what is propelling matter and accelerating it.  How matter generates Dark Energy and converts it to propulsive force is as big a mystery as how matter generates and converts Gravitational Energy to gravitational force. AND if you challenge this I say to you it is just as plausible (or unlikely) for matter to be able to make Gravitational Energy as it is to make Dark Energy.

So how does this do away with Dark Matter?  Quite simple:  If you look at the velocity profile of stars in galaxies, if matter is self-propelled, when stars reach a certain threshold/distance from the core of the galaxy, they overcome gravity and start accelerating and increase in velocity and they don’t need a Dark Matter gravitational halo to do it.  By endowing matter with another undamental property, that of self-propulsion, the mysteries of galactic and universe dynamics are solved at a stroke.

The math proving that galaxies rotate much faster than they should is done as is the case for the accelerating expanding universe.  Now it is high time for mathematicians to apply the math to the Baryonic matter which is what is being propelled and not to the spaces between it.

Having thought long and hard about the mystery of Matter, it seems to me that the hunt for Dark Matter and Dark Energy over the past 20 years has been a desperate distraction and diversion from investigating a much more fundamental matter.  If matter is indeed the generator of both Gravitational Energy and Dark Energy we should be devoting sciences billions of dollars to find out where the energy comes from and or how matter generates it.  We should then investigate how matter converts that energy into the forces driving our universe.  We should also discover how matter can generate both of those energies.

If you want to explore this further please go to my YouTube introductory video by keying in ‘The universe we now live in’ and for my video on ‘The Accelerating Expanding Universe’ please key in those words on YouTube. And by the way this hypothesis does not violate the law of conservation of energy because it is comfortable with the idea that from the moment of the big bang, the total of energy in the universe has remained constant.  No additional input of energy is required to make our universe work no matter how infinitely large it grows.

We keep saying we know less and less about what the universe is made up of. It's now down to about 4 percent known substance, and 96 percent absolutely unknown. I encourage you to really look at galaxies. It looks like many of them are expelling matter and generating stars from the middle and hurling them outward, expanding rather than collapsing.

We have never seen a galaxy rotate any appreciable amount. The only thing we have are Doppler shifts. We are making conclusions based only on Doppler shifts. Another shocking possibility is that our extremely fledgling observations are not being interpreted correctly.

So while there's clumping, groups of galaxies passing through each other he's not showing that all of this is expanding at the same time? Is that taken into account and it's just too slow to show up? I don't think these examples are correct if not. Are they? I'm just a high school graduate, help me here.

No. That plasma electrical discharges can produce x rays? No. That CBR may be incorrect because of faulty image processing and inability to reproduce pattern? No. We probably should pay more attention to plasma cosmology and electric universe. These disciplines seriously doubt the presence of Dark Matter. Or dark energy for that matter. Cheers.
