The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak

***Get ready – a new book from B.J. Novak is coming this fall! THE ALPHABET BOOK WITH NO PICTURES leaves all the fun to the words, not the pictures. Kids will discover that reading is as simple as building a tower of letters. As more letters are introduced, the text becomes more enticing. The more letters, the more goofy humor. Here he’s using his message about the wonder of words in a new way that again shows kids how much power and joy there is in reading. Pre-order your copy here: http://bit.ly/2l1eBNh ***

At once perfectly simple and ingeniously imaginative, The Book With No Pictures inspires laughter every time it is opened, creating a warm and joyous experience to share—and introducing young children to the powerful idea that the written word can be an unending source of mischief and delight.

I just love, love this book. I've read this book to my 4th graders, and my girls LOVE it! I highly recommend this book.

Can't wait to read this aloud to my daughter some day! Loved the video and now realize how ingenious and brilliant this book is. A must read-out-loud book for children by parents who wish to do something different!

Love this concept (not so much this book). There's a war against words. Picture books have been reduced from about 2000 words or more 75 years ago to 500 or preferably fewer or best of all, NO WORDS! It's all about illustrations. They've dreamed up high-falutin, pedagogical term for this: "graphic literacy." As if kids have to be taught to look at pictures. Words are unfair; a large vocabulary gives kids who are regularly read to unfair advantage! Believe it or not, that 's a theory. Let's keep 'em all equally illiterate. It's only fair! Both parents working; no one has time to read long story. But, in fact, words, early, plenteous, complex, rhyming, are one of the most precious gifts a young child can receive!

What is the purpose behind this book? Perhaps to teach children to laugh at the non-sensical so they may take the things that make sense more seriously?
