The Power of Your Words

Too often we say things without giving much thought to them, and we hurt other people’s feelings in the process. We need to be more cognizant of the fact that words, once spoken, cannot be taken back.

Words are powerful and can transform lives in both positive and negative ways. They often leave emotional scars when they are utilized in a negative way and an indelible mark on the lives of their victims that not even time can erase.

Negative words can generate fear, hopelessness, lack of motivation, and poor self-esteem. They can slowly consume one’s dreams, hopes, and visions until there is nothing left of them.

Words linger in the mind and percolate deep into the spirit. Negative words can even be more perilous than physical harm. If you believe that, “Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words cannot hurt me,” this poem is for you.

The Power of Words

So you say that words can’t hurt you?

Think again!

Words like stones,

Can break your bones.

They can cut through you like knives,

And destroy lives.

Words can humiliate,

Words can steal,

Words can kill,

Words can mar.

So you say that words can’t hurt you?

Think again!

Because words have such a profound impact on our lives by influencing our thought processes, we need to be selective with our words. Children especially, are  emotionally fragile and have a greater need to feel valued. Positive reinforcement will help them to grow up to be the best that they can be.

Words of encouragement, inspiration, and motivation are uplifting and empower people. They can lift a person from the depths of depair and hopelessness to a level of renewed hope and confidence. These words are like a breath of fresh air that soothes and relaxes the mind and invigorates the soul.

Positive Words

Sweet as honey from the honeycomb

Are positive words.

Soothing the membrane of the mind,

Energizing the soul.

Positive words.

Negative words are like weapons that can completely destroy others. It is therefore crucial for us to offer words of praise and encouragement to other people whenever the opportunity arises, especially to the ones we hold dear.
