John Lennon – Life Quote – Famous Quote – Quotations

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy . They told me I didn t understand the assignment … … and I told them they didn t understand life. John Lennon October 9, 1940 – December 8, 1980 40 Years Old

I am a Beatles fanatic. I have seen and read hundreds and hundreds of their interviews. In my opinion, I think this quote is fabricated. It doesn't sound like something he would say. John Lennon did not live hundreds of years ago. He lived on this planet a short time ago and just about every interview he gave was recorded on either tv or radio. If he made a quote like this …it will be well documented with the date, time, and interviewer source. I believe it to be quite fake.

Unfortunately, there has been no provable (as yet) attribution for this quote. A similar tale was 'uttered' by Charlie Brown and Linus in a Peanut strip in the sixties, and Goldie Hawn said similar when relating a part of her childhood in her memoirs back in 2005. According to 'Quote Investigator', a blogger called 'littlemiss' penned these lines in August 2008 as an unattributed quote on tumblr.

In addition to my last comment, I would like to say you're spreading more confusion than inspiration to me…Is the quote not good enough to stand on its own merits, without having to attach someone famous to it, to make it more popular or appealing? and what is it you think I am trying to spread, besides the truth? had enough of wasting my time with you thanks…have a great day…

That's pretty great reasoning. Make a claim and further perpetuate a rumor, based on the fact that you read about it on the internet…lmfao, "I read it on the internet, so it has to be true" uhhhh, think for yourself much? Dude, I am just curious as to where and when he said this, as I have heard others claim it as well, yet there is absolutely no evidence to substantiate that claim. "I can't prove the man said this…" thank you, I can move on to the next source…

In addition to my first comment, I would like to say that I am not spreading rumours, I am spreading inspiration. You however, appear to be spreading something else entirely …

Just because you live with your Aunt, that does not mean you never talk to your mother … and not every quote has footage readily available for your verification purposes. If this is a myth, then I have been suckered like thousands of others. I can't prove the man said this, any more than you can. There are several 'sources' on the Internet that claim he said it, it fits with what I know of the man's philosophy, and even if he did not say it, he would have been proud, I think, to have done so.

When he was 5 he was living with his Aunt, not his mother. "Assignment" is an American word, not UK. I was hoping to find proof that he said this, all this is just another fake post. Please provide your source, after all if you're going to put words in a dead mans mouth, please provide us actual footage of him saying this. Unless spreading rumours is your 'thang'.
