No you gotta measure the walls centre then draw your plumb line down the centre. After that you do your wall paper left and right 1 by 1 until you get to both edges to avoid an awkward 1 side to the wall.

As almost a fully qualified painter and decorator he should've used the herring bone technique when he was pasting the paper

OMG what a crock of shit.  Firstly people out there do not learn from a cowboy like this.  The paper needs to be slightly over the edge when pasting to avoid paste not only getting on the table, but the paper.  The techniques is all wrong it should be down the centre and the criss cross to the edges(to avoid any misses).  You do not start in the left hand corner, there are many considerations to look at, has the room got a chimney breast, window, where to find your focal and non-focal points.  If you are papering one wall you must find the centre so the pattern is balanced on either side.  This is one bad video.

I find using a string quicker and better than using a siccors to cut the paper

Cheap table, paint brush to apply paste (wrong) 3" inches overhang top and bottom (wrong). In fact, nothing about his tips are correct. There are some good vids on youtube, this was one of the worst.
